In 2016 Magnetic Shields Limited became a member of the "Quantum Technology Hub in Sensors and Metrology" group and embarked on a partnership with the University of Birmingham. The focus of this collaboration was to research magnetic shielding applications for quantum sensors.

MSL is currently leading the Innovate UK “QT Shield” project and the University of Birmingham are supporting MSL with the project. A focus of the project is to research 3D printing of mu-metal components to enable the creation of high performance, lightweight and compact shielding solutions for the commercialisation of portable quantum sensors.
