Due to continued growth and expansion, Magnetic Shields Limited (MSL) are recruiting for an enthusiastic Junior Physicist to join our Research and Development department
MSL are leading specialists in the manufacture of bespoke magnetic shielding. Established for over 50 years, our experience and expertise allow us to adapt to the changing market and provide high quality, complex shielding solutions for emerging and existing applications. Based in Kent, England, our manufacturing facility is fully equipped with the latest technology to provide our customers with the highest level of service and quality. All of our manufacturing processes, including heat treatment, are integrated in our production plant
About the role:
The Junior Physicist role will involve design, simulation and testing of magnetic shielding for a wide range of applications. The successful candidate will also be involved in quality control magnetic testing of final products to ensure adherence to technical specifications and in writing technical reports for customers. The role will involve carrying out test set ups, operations and calibration independently, whilst documenting procedures and results. The role will require communication with customers to provide technical support, which can additionally involve site visits, and will call for the flexibility and self-motivation required to work in a dynamic SME
Work on various Innovate UK funded projects will also be carried out, with a focus on magnetic shielding for quantum sensors including optically-pumped magnetometers (OPMs) and quantum gravimeters. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with a new spin-out company started by MSL and the University of Nottingham, who are providing the world’s first commercial MEG (brain scanning) solution using OPMs
