Our new factory unit is due to be completed, which means several new roles are available for the right applicants. Magnetic Shields Limited have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our on-site Research & Development team as Electronics Technician. 

We are leading specialists in the design, manufacture and installation of bespoke magnetically shielded rooms and associated products, and have an expanding customer base throughout the UK, Europe, USA and Asia. With a full manufacturing facility in Staplehurst, Kent and fully equipped with the latest technology, we are able to provide our customers with the highest level of service and quality. All of our manufacturing processes, including heat treatment, are integrated in our production plant.

Job Description:

Magnetic Shields require an enthusiastic Electronics Technician to join their expanding research and development team. This position will involve working with Physicists and Engineers on the practical build of repeating products and original equipment to meet customer expectation within tight timescales, as well as thorough documentation of new and existing build procedures. The equipment build will possess electrical and electronic content together with supporting mechanical content. Defining, documenting and sourcing suitable parts is a key requirement. Basic workshop skills as well as an academic qualification is essential. A good appreciation of Health & Safety aspects within the daily operation of a busy laboratory/workshop environment is needed

The team is responsible for the experimental setup, realisation and measurement of magnetic fields across a range of frequencies from DC (0 Hz) to VLF (3-30 kHz), for both research and technical support purposes. The position will also involve the construction and operation of compensation coil systems for nullifying magnetic fields and systems for the degaussing of large enclosures. The candidate will be required to perform test set ups in-house, whilst documenting procedures and results. The role will call for the flexibility and self-motivation required to work in a dynamic SME

Required Skills/Experience:

  • HNC with practical experience would be considered the minimum acceptable qualification
  • Electronic assembly/testing experience
  • Calibration experience
  • Soldering and crimping experience
  • Good communicator with good written English skills, and ability to liaise with customers
  • Basic fault-finding skills and demonstration of logical method
  • Technical documentation skills with keen eye for detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good computer office and presentation of data skills

Desirable:

  • Ideally 1-2 years relevant work experience
  • Basic understanding for the generation and testing of DC & AC magnetic fields
  • An awareness of EMI shielding techniques and a familiarity with EMI testing standards, e.: MIL-STD or IEEE
  • An ability to support off-site work with potential overseas travel
