About the Role
Due to continued growth and expansion, MSL are seeking an experienced Junior Mechatronics Engineer, you will working closely with both the mechanical and electrical engineering design teams to capture and integrate the interfaces between the two disciplines. Activities will include the design and threading of cable looms from the small scale (i.e.: 19" equipment racks) to large complex structures (i.e.: magnetically-shielded rooms).
You will be involved in the critical design review of complex structures to ensure mutual electro-magnetical compatibility, compiling CAD models & design documentation of electrical assemblies to be included in the product assembly model, the design & construction of test jigs, small prototypes to test out concepts for new products & product upgrades.
The role will be based in the Research & Development team, reporting directly to the R&D Manager, but will involve a significant amount of liaising with the mechanical design team.
The successful candidate will be one with excellent communication and inter-personel skills and a strong team player.

Responsibilities
Includes (but not limited to):
- Design, modelling & documentation of cable looms from rack size to room size
- Undertaking & running critical design review activities, specifically around electromechanical interfaces
- Design & construction of small prototypes & test units
- Prototype design qualification
- Supporting the R&D team in integration, qualification & product testing
Essential Skills
- Degree in Engineering
- Some practical experience with electronic measurement & signal generation equipment
- Understanding of basic fault finding & demonstration of logical method
- Basic programming skills for equipment automation and electro-mechanical control
- Technical documentation skills with keen eye for detail
- Strong analytically, alongside good computer skills & data presentation
- Reliable, motivated with ability to demonstrate logical & reasoned approach to problem solving
- Good communication skills
- Able to work effectively both in a team & independently
Desirable Skills
- Soldering, crimping & wiring experience
- Understanding of the generation & testing of DC & AC magnetic fields
- Ability to read & understand engineering drawings
- Experience of MCAD (preferably Inventor) and ECAD (preferably Altium) techniques
